kids in mind design

Bismillah...

do you think about your kids when decorating or  when purchasing large pieces of furniture etc?
i love the simplicity and practicality of this "island"/table
i think hassan would have a field day
if i ever even got the thought in my head that i could pull this off :)

room for inspiration . 3. Books everywhere...

Bismillah...

Okay, so I will not be going in order with my wish-list. Why? Because I don't know why. Remember my wishlist for our new house? Read about it here.
Anyways, anyone who knows me knows I love books and have a little library that I've been adding to over the years. Even with Kindles and every kind of APPS out there that allow you to read anywhere and everywhere, I will never abandon my book collection.

Also, as an unschooling mom, I certainly DO NOT support my kids using Kindles and such. I want them to experience the joy of reading everywhere, and while I would never say no to Kindles etc, I have committed to forcing them to pick up a book and using all their senses when they read.

I want them to feel the texture of the pages.
smell the pages
dog ear their pages as they plan to return to to their beloved story another time
and most of all
I want them to walk into a room and be inspired to pick up a book and leaf through it

I don't think you can really get that from a Kindle.
Who knows?!

on the side

Bismillah...

We left pretty much all of our furniture in Toronto- we took only our bedroom set. Now that we are re-purchasing and making the connections on getting what we want and what is right for the space, versus, getting furniture to fill the space, we are being very careful with our purchases.

I've been loking for inspirations for a new sidetable for the living space...

home improvements

Bismillah...

summer means clean up time, or is that spring?
regardless, there's work being done on the house right now

...new siding

except for a few bangs here and there, and the fact that we don't go out to the backyard, and that our little grill has been left untouched...we are not really inconvenienced.

i like seeing the improvement process.
feels like i'm on one of those hgtv shows, lol.

this is what it looked like before...

cute islamic decorating for hassan

Bismillah...

Hassan doesn't have his own bedroom. I think he's planning on staying with us until he gets married, lol. Seriously, I can't imagine him in his own space (as in bedroom), but I do plan on giving him his own space down in the basement.

I love these cute and simple Islamic decors for his space...but more importantly, they are really creative teaching tools.

*sorry i have no idea where they are from.

Blessed

Bismillah...

Sometimes God send Rainbows of hope (not that I was feeling hopeless) in many forms. Lastnight Peter, the other half of the our realty team stopped by with a wonderful gift for the family. Our days have been a mixture of bleak and sunshine since all the work issues came up, and yesterday was a rainy mess, but Peter and Deborah made our day.

Baba's been telling me to invite them over for the long week-end, and I thought, "who wants to have their long week-end disrupted by people they don't even know very well...?" Well, Deborah is away visiting family, but I do hope to invite them very soon to the house inshaAllah.

space man

Bismillah...

Hassan has been very busy. Looking at him in both places really makes me smile. In a week he has really become independent. He's had a few falls, but nothing too bad, and he is loving the space.

Now when he enters a room, he screams so that he can hear his voice, lol. He needed the space :)

My...space

A'ouzo billahi min-aash-shaitan-ir-rajeem.
Bismillah...

I cannot tell you how much I look forward to the quiet moments in the house. Lately, there haven't been many, but I am trying to find the right place and time to just "be". Hassan is at an age yet where he is not only clingy but really vocal about who he wants to spend his time with. That means every waking hour he wants me or his sisters by his side...baba got off easy (so far).

I created a little nook - or, I am in the process of creating my own personal space. I was inspired by these lovely and tranguil photos, and I am pretty sure, with my books, some tea, and my special little area - AND no Hassan, I will be at peace, lol.

Don't you just love the look of these...?

just relax now...

Home base

Bismillah...

So this is it, THE house...

Bedrooms
3

Baths
1 full
2 half

Basement is finished with laundry room.

It was a pretty close race between this one and the one in Cedarbrae house #19, but in the end this house won out, mostly because of the the cost of utilities and the appliances in this house are new, and it is majorly upgraded- the other house wasn't at all, AND we have a backyard.
There are a lot of stairs. Hassan is a bit used to stairs at A's house (babysitter), but I was really scared about him going up and down these stairs.

What else? The neighborhood is good, and there are schools around. On the inside, things look good, and we will work on the little things as time and money allows. Unfortunately, this house is the only house with an old furnace- the only one, I couldn't believe it. I guess we'll have to save bit by bit to buy a new one, just in case.

More pics to come as we put the house together...
